HBCU Political Science Graduate Creates a Luxury Brand and Foundation Helping Those Suffering From Sickle Cell Disease.
Quoiya Rose is a Native of Brooklyn, New York, who studied political science at Morgan State University, but realized that politics wasn't really her passion. So, after graduation, she pursued her dream. Quoiya said “It was time for me to step out and start, even if I had to start from just selling T-shirts”.
Growing up Quoiya admired the works of couture designers; like Versace and Moschino who brought a luxury but urban flare to fashion. As a child she always loved how entertainers dressed, dressing up her dolls and looking through fashion magazines.
“I knew fashion was my passion because I would always find a way to dress up in someone’s clothing and act like I was modeling. I never had it easy growing up, especially dealing with sickle cell disease and living in the projects. I was always sick and didn’t have a stable home environment, so I couldn’t really focus too much on many of the things in fashion that interest me. As an adult and now especially as a designer, it is very important for me to be able to showcase my vision through my clothing.”
Manelli Rose is now a luxury brand, also offering pieces rooted in our current culture. Manelli Rose was founded in 2013, however began operating locally in Brooklyn in 2018. The designs are intended to fit the lifestyle of any individual. For Manelli Rose, free expression means everything. Fashion allows you to express yourself through style, art and music. I want to positively encourage people to express themselves however they choose to – Say’s Quoiya Rose.
“My main goal for Manelli Rose is to build a successful brand, but it is most important for me to establish my sickle cell foundation (fashion cells). The mission for Fashion cells is to uplift young dreamers dealing with sickle cell disease in urban communities. I will educate families dealing with sickle cell on how to live healthier lifestyles. I intend to provide children/teens with opportunities to pursue higher education and grants to fund their entrepreneurial endeavors.”
